Taking down the Premiers

80,000 screaming fans at the MCG on a Friday night as you take on the premiers. It doesn’t get better than that.

Actually it does, but only when the majority are cheering for your team and you then knock off the premiers in convincing fashion.

Having said that we are by no means getting carried away with our victory over Geelong.
The Cats were not at their best on Friday night and, as Mick Malthouse said to us post-game, “if we think we are a ten goal better team than Geelong, we are kidding ourselves.”

I think we came into the game with a fair amount of confidence after we were able to knock off St Kilda the week prior. My confidence has also lifted, as it usually does when you are getting a few more touches and things are going right for the team.

If things were summed up for me it was when I kicked one from a tight angle, dribbling it through for a goal. I was stoked with the goal but when you are struggling they are the ones which hit the post. When you’re winning by a few points they nearly always go through.

We have now gone from needing to win a match which was a 50/50 prospect two weeks ago to winning another huge game. With that comes confidence, although West Coast will be a difficult prospect this Saturday.

I think the Eagles have been written off by a lot of people in the media at a very early stage of the season and I would say write them off at your own peril. They knocked off Adelaide last weekend, and the Crows are no easy beats. That win may have given the Eagles a bit of confidence.

They have Josh Kennedy at centre-half forward who has been impressive this season and the number one ruckman in the game in Dean Cox, who always has an impact on any game he plays.

It’s a danger game for us and we can’t afford to be complacent just because of where West Coast are sitting on the ladder. If anything we should be motivated to move further into the top eight by the end of the weekend.

After the result at the weekend I expect Geelong will be fired up for their battle with Carlton. I also think the Blues might fancy themselves to cause an upset since they beat us earlier this season.

Lifting the intensity

It’s my first blog and I am hoping this will give me a chance to get my thoughts across about footy and life. I hope plenty of Collingwood fans check it out and have a read.
