I’m not going anywhere!

It has been brought to my attention that an article was written today stating: “Collingwood’s Dale Thomas is the latest name to be mentioned in connection with the (Gold) Coast.”

I want to be the first to say that while the weather and lifestyle would certainly appeal to me, I don’t think that will be happening!

I am happy here at Collingwood and am not looking to move.

With Gold Coast acquiring the 17th licence, talk has turned to another new franchise in Tasmania and, while I am a fan of more teams if they can turn over a profit and be good for the game, I don’t know how easy it would be to sell Tassie to some of the boys.

While I am talking about the administrative side of AFL I want to comment on the new rules, particularly in regards to the deliberate rushing of behinds.

The new rules certainly make for some mad goal mouth scrambles in defence and similar to the NAB Cup I don’t think they have made a huge difference yet. I guess the question is do I feel it was a knee jerk reaction by the AFL?

If you look at the history of the game, there have been very few games decided by teams rushing behinds. Was it a good look in the Richmond versus Essendon game last year? No, but that was a one off and I think it will be a long time before a similar situation arises.

Having said that I am sure the AFL would have thought long and hard about any change to the laws of the game.

Speaking of games I wish we had of played better in our season opener against Adelaide. We didn’t gel as well as we had in the pre-season and it certainly cost us against the Crows.

It was a hard loss to take. We certainly didn’t play our best footy and we were beaten by an Adelaide side who always take the slightest chance provided to them.

Coming out of that game I felt like John Anthony performed very well for us. John has made the transition from back (where he wasn’t getting a run) to forward and he stood up against Adelaide. John is a guy you love to have in the forward line because he very rarely misses, which is what every forward wants.

Reading some of the comments on my blog, obviously you Collingwood fans believe my disallowed goal was a goal. Honestly at the time I thought I had done enough to keep the ball in play and kick the goal, but having watched subsequent replays I’m not sure either way. It was a tough call which went against us. It happens. Thinking it could have been the difference does hurt, but we just have to get on with the job.

The job this weekend is Melbourne on Saturday afternoon at ‘The G’ and despite the way the media at large are writing the Dees off it’s not a foregone conclusion. There are eight teams with wins and eight with losses and you don’t know the form teams from one game. For the record I didn’t think Melbourne were too bad against the Kangas last week.

As for all the Dream Team comments, thanks to Laura, Nathan, Katie and anyone else who has put me in their team and a big thanks to Mish for making me captain. I’ll have to grab more than 81 points this week; I should have had more last week.

    Hi Daleee.

    Your pictures are so amusing.

I don’t like the rushed behind rule either. What’s wrong with a rushed behind??? Ugh.

And yeah, Jack Anthony is awesomeeeely cool.

Of course, he isn’t as cool as you, Dale. You’re like really cool. If you looked up “cool” in the dictionary, there be a picture of you. (Btw~, there’d be a picture of you next to other words such as “awesome”)

I’m sure you’ll go FABULOUSLY against Melbourne.

    ^____^

    ily.

Thank god for that, I nearly had a heart attack when I read the paper this morning! The media make up a lot of crap most of the time when they have nothing to report.

About your goal, I was at the match so I haven’t seen a replay of the goal, but I swear that you stood over the line, but kept the ball in play. I went absolutely crazy when they took it off you. They also took a great specky off you.

And thanks for the 81 Dream Team points, because I am the league leader at the moment by 54 points, thanks Daisy!

On a completely different topic, I rewatched the 2005 TAC Cup Grand Final that you starred in, you were fantastic that day! 4 goals (two from the boundary) a specky and best on ground.

Anyway, I’m looking forward to Saturday to cheer all the boys on.

    GO PIES!!!

You should have set it straight Buddy Style. “Im a one man team.”

Seriously though, Im glad you arent leaving. I cant see why anyone would want to leave Collingwood. Sure, its always in the press but the supporter base is so passionatea about the team and the game (Well, I cant speak for everyone but I know I am), and honestly, we love you at Collingwood.

Last saturday was a heartbreaking loss, but hopefully the Pies will get one back this week.

Keep bringing in the Dream Team points, Captain.

    Hi Dale

I have been a collingwood fan my whole life, my entire family is also. But having lived in Country QLD for 5 years with my husband (who was in the Army) I haven’t been able to see you in action. BUT I’ve come home to Melb and I’ve made the first 2 rounds.. but to my shock horror (and almost demanded a refund) you weren’t there. I hope you are feeling better soon and back on your feet. I look forward every week to our games and love watching you in action (much to my husband’s disgust lol).

    Get well soon..

    CARN THE PIES……!!!

By the way…. I was screaming at the Umpire last week with your goal… NOT HAPPY!

    xx Karen

I hope you get to play on Thursday. Hopefully, Dayne Beams doesn’t take your spot in the team. Not that there’s anything wrong with Dayne Beams. ;)
Anyhoo, how did you get the name “Fwed” for a fish?

And anywayz, you need to play on Thursday because you’re my Vice-Captain on my Dream Team. Ew, I just realised I made Chris Judd the captain. HE’S NOT COLLINGWOOD! Epic fail.

  10. Mish says:

  15. Nathan says:

Chin up Daisy, there’s always next week to take the four points. Plus you get an 8 day break, to be ready for the Lions.

Also, thanks for another good DT game with 85 points. And thanks to Dayne Beams (who will the Rising Star award this year) for 84 points.

    I wish you a Happy Easter and…

    GO PIES!!!

  16. Laura says:

  18. Laura says:

    Hey Dale,

I’m in year 12 and we have to a stupid Language Analysis on an article about “Should Aus. Day be changed?” or something like that. idk.

Anyhoo, what’s your opinion on the topic above? I’m just interested, is all.

And also, how did you go when you were in year 12? What subjects did you do? And what advice can you give to me about it?

Yes, this is an OFF-TOPIC comment. But whatever.

    Love from Laura.
